This is my favorite bedtime tea. I used to use Sleepytime, then Sleepytime Extra, but this product is better tasting and more effective for making me drowsy. The ingredients also appear to be higher quality. It has a pleasant flavor similar to chamomile but with other herbs added.
Of all the valerian teas I've tried, this one tastes best. It's not quite as strong as some but you can always use two bags. Very relaxing, very calming, really does help you sleep.
I drink this tea about one hour before I plan to go to bed. Not only do I sleep through the night, but unlike prescription sleeping aids that I have tried, I now have dreams again and don't wake up with a hangover. As suggested on the box, I steep two teabags per (12 ounce) cup. I'm not a fan of the licorice flavor in the tea, but the other flavors are just fine. I tolerate the licorice flavor because the tea works so wonderfully.
I had been taking a low dose prescription drug to help me stay asleep at night. I would often wake up in the middle of the night two or three times. I wouldn't consider myself an insomniac but just wanted to stay asleep all night. I have been using two tea bags in a large mug and drinking it about 30 minutes prior to going to bed. I find myself falling asleep easily and staying asleep all night. I'm cutting down and eliminating my prescription drug altogether. It works!
I usually don't write reviews. But I have to share my story because I wish I had tried this tea sooner. Ive been dealing with really bad anxiety which leads to really bad insomnia, which leads to more anxiety.. More insomnia.. You get the point! Anyways, after one of my involuntary all-nighters I was exhausted and miserable all day, dreading bed time because I didnt want another night of tossing & turning, staring at the ceiling, and worrying. I usually drink chamomile before bed because it tastes good and I just like tea, but ive never had an effect from tea like this one. I made 1 cup last night, finished about 3/4 of it and laid down. Not even 5 minutes later- my ENTIRE body was relaxed. It was a full body physical sensation. I was honestly shocked at first, wondering how every single of my tense muscles could relax simply from a tea. It literally slowed my breathing and made me so tired I couldnt even get up. Which might sound scary to you but at this point I need a bull tranquilizer to make me sleep. But it was such a natural feeling, not like I was drugged up or groggy. Just relaaaxxxeedd and sleeeepppyyy. I ended up sleeping through the night without waking up (something I also struggled with) and 8 hours later- here I am! Cant wait to try it again tonight.Ps- research the herbs in this tea. This is the best blend to combat insomnia/anxiety. However the most important thing to remember is it is extremely mental. If you think youre gonna have a bad nights sleep, you most likely will. Change that mind set!
